Почему эта проверка XML с помощью XSD завершилась неудачей в libxml2 (но преуспеть в xmllint) и как его исправить?

Если я запустил эту проверку XML с помощью xmllint:

xmllint --noout --schema schema.xsd test.xml

Я получаю сообщение успех:

.../test.xml validates

Однако, если я запустил ту же проверку через API libxml2 C:

int result = xmlSchemaValidateDoc(...)

Я получаю возвращаемое значение 1845 и это сообщение :

Element '{http://example.com/XMLSchema/1.0}foo': No matching global declaration available for the validation root.

Которую я не могу абсолютно не понимать.: (
